How to read The Friday Five

The Friday Five is a free weekly newsletter that explains the five stocks that defined the trading week: what moved, why it moved, what the market may be pricing in, and which risks still matter. It is published after the final trading day of every week.

What The Friday Five is

Each issue is a calm, decision-ready briefing for self-directed investors. It covers the market backdrop, which sectors led and lagged, and five companies whose weekly moves were driven by specific, verifiable catalysts. Every issue is general market education and commentary. It is not individualized investment advice, and it never promises outcomes.

How the five are selected

The five stocks come out of a weekly research pipeline, not a hot list. Candidates are screened from the week's significant movers, then each serious candidate passes independent checks before publication: the weekly performance numbers are verified against multiple sources, the catalyst behind the move is traced to primary or reliable reporting, and each name is reviewed for liquidity, dilution, and other red flags. Anything that cannot be verified gets cut. The full process is documented in the Performance Methodology.

How to read each stock section

Every stock in an issue follows the same structure, so you always know where to look:

• Weekly move: the verified price change over the exact dates stated.
• What happened: the facts of the week, kept separate from opinion.
• Why it moved: the catalyst, with sources.
• Why it matters: the interpretation, clearly labeled as analysis.
• Primary risk: the bear case. Every idea ships with the argument against it.
• What to watch next: the dated events that could change the story.

Understanding the Scoreboard

The Scoreboard tracks every published pick against the S&P 500, in public, winners and losers alike. It measures price return from split-adjusted closing prices over each issue's stated window. It is a record of what the newsletter said, not a portfolio, and past results do not predict future ones.

Educational content

The Learn Hub explains every concept the newsletter uses in plain English, from reading an earnings report to what a catalyst actually is. Each issue also includes a Term of the Week tied to that week's events. If you are brand new, begin with the beginner guides and let the weekly issues reinforce them.
